The owners/operators of Infotech were authors, illustrators, and major contributors to the publications of National Camera—including the lesson texts, the National Camera Service Manuals, the Workshop Workbooks, and the original The Camera Craftsman magazine. They also wrote many of the SPT and Fargo Enterprise publications. Infotech was founded by Bud Fowler, former Dean of Instruction at National Camera.
Bud joi
ned National Camera in 1955, starting as a bench technician in the
repair shop. He then became an instructor and moved up to Chief Instructor
before becoming Dean of Instruction. Bud later moved on to overseeing the production of course materials as well as the
preparation and sale of non-course technical publications. When National Camera
was sold in 1988 (see,
National Camera Institute),
Bud obtained the copyrights to many of the National Camera publications. He started Infotech
in 1989 to continue providing those publications to the industry. The picture in
the NatCam classroom (left) shows Bud in National Camera days.
Infotech went online in 2004 when Larry Lyells joined the company. Larry had
a
lso worked at National Camera. Larry started as a bench technician and moved to
instruction, then Assistant to the President, and finally Vice President, Technical
Publications. He also worked several years for the Society of Photo Technologists (Technical Director)
and for Fargo Enterprises (Technical Writer). He has been awarded both the Phil
Zimmerman award (SPT) and the George
LaCroix award (NAPAT) for service to the camera-repair industry. The picture at
the right shows Larry in National Camera days preparing the Craftsman article on
the Olympus OM-1.
Since going online, Infotech has added several products including camera-repair CD's, the complete Valera course in vintage camera repair, collectibles, and free tutorials. We've also added several original repair manuals in the Tutorial Series on CD's.
